The Renegade Pantry began in 2009, when there was a massive cut to California Community College special needs programs, which led to a growing need among students. BCSGA responded to the needs of their constituents and developed the Renegade Pantry program. The Pantry’s main goal is to help maintain the health and welfare of Bakersfield College students through organized college, community sponsorships, and donations of non-perishable food items. Access to adequate food is basic human right, and the attendance of college should not forfeit this right.
Through ongoing partnerships within Bakerfield, the Renegade Pantry is able to provide food assistance to BC students enrolled in at least 0.5 unit. Students receive fresh fruits & vegetables, bread, and items like cereal, eggs & milk. They can also choose from grab-n-go, microwaveable, breakfast & lunch items. While also learning to budget, students are allotted free weekly points to “purchase” food items with. To find out more about the Renegade Pantry Shelf Program, visit www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/pantry or visit us at Levinson Hall.
