bakersfieldcollege.edu/college-safety Levinson Hall 23 | (661) 395-4554
Bakersfield College is a dynamic hub for diverse communities. The College Safety department facilitates the support of a safe and secure environment in our pursuit to provide educational opportunities and valuable life skills to our students, faculty, and staff. College Safety provides security, safety training, emergency response, and parking enforcement for all of our campus locations.
Crime Reporting & Prevention
Please be always aware of your surroundings. Trust your instincts, and if you feel uneasy about a situation, get to a safe place, and call for help. College Safety is a 24/7 operation. Members of our college communities should immediately report any suspicious or criminal activity or emergencies to College Safety at (661) 395-4554 or 911.
Remember: If you See Something, Say Something, so we can Do Something.
The Jeanne Clery Act
Because Bakersfield College serves many diverse communities, maintaining a level of transparency around campus crime policy and statistics is required to keep our communities informed and safe.
In 1998, the Federal government passed the Jeanne Clery Disclosure of Campus Security Policy & Campus Crime Statistics Act, commonly referred to as the Clery Act (www.clerycenter.org/policy-resources/the-clery-act). This law includes several requirements for colleges and universities that receive federal funding.
Crime Data & Annual Security Report
Bakersfield College is required to release crime data for criminal offenses, Violence Against Women Act offenses, hate crimes, and arrests and referrals for disciplinary action. Crime reporting statistics include data on crimes that occur on the physical campuses, on campus housing, on public property within campus bounds, on public property immediately adjacent to the campus, and on non-campus buildings and property owned by the college. These areas are known as the crime reporting geography. This data is made available to the public on our Daily Crime Log (www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/college-safety/crime- reporting).
Bakersfield College is required to distribute an annual security report (ASR) every October 1st. This report discloses 3 years of campus crime statistics, detailed information about efforts to improve campus safety, and several policy statements. The most recent report can be found on our Clery Act Compliance webpage (www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/college-safety/clery-act- compliance).
Campus Security Authorities (CSAs)
College Safety is the Bakersfield College Campus Security Authority, as defined by the Clery Act. Certain other college individuals may also serve as campus security authorities. These are individuals "to which students and employees should report criminal offenses." College Safety keeps record of this list at bakersfieldcollege.edu/college-safety/campus-security- authorities. CSAs can also find the Campus Security Authority Crime Reporting Form on our Clery Act Compliance webpage (www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/college-safety/clery-act-compliance).
Parking
Bakersfield College encourages you to carpool and ride-share to get to campus. Please see our Transportation webpage (www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/panorama/transportation) for more information about alternate transportation options. College Safety is the parking authority for all Bakersfield College campuses. Parking permits and the details of our Parking Rules & Regulations can be found on the Parking website at www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/parking.
Lost Property
If you have lost personal property on any Bakersfield College campus, you can submit a Lost Property Inquiry. Bakersfield College is unable to guarantee that lost property will be successfully recovered. However, submitting this inquiry will allow our Officers to connect and help you potentially identify your property or submit a lost property report. Lost Property Inquiries can be submitted on our Health & Safety Resources webpage (www.bakersfieldcollege.edu/college-safety/health-safety- resources).
