Bakersfield College Student Government Association (BCSGA) is your student government at Bakersfield College that voices your concerns. BCSGA presents your opinions, needs, and concerns to such groups as the College Council, the State Student California Community College (SSCCC), and many campus-wide and district-wide committees. BCSGA also allocates your Campus Center and Student Representation fees to programs and services that directly benefit students and the interim Campus Center (Levinson Hall). Regular meetings are held and are open to the public. Meeting times are posted in the Office of Student Life, Levinson Hall.
BCSGA provides an avenue for motivated students to begin their understanding of public service through being involved in their student government. BCSGA elected officials are actively involved in various aspects of the college and meet with administrators, system officials, and legislators on a regular basis to improve our campus and discuss student related concerns and initiatives. The decisions made by BCSGA Officers affect every individual on campus.
The Association is comprised of 12 senators and 12 officers. BCSGA is to be the official voice for the students at BC and to ensure that the students are represented in all matters of the participatory governance. Through lobbying, advocacy, and student representation, the Association ensures a supportive educational environment while promoting unity and cooperation with students, faculty, staff, and administration. It is the intent of the Association to promote campus life, student involvement, and engagement.
To be eligible to run for a BCSGA Office, Bakersfield College students must be enrolled in and successfully complete at least six semester hours at Bakersfield College and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. While each student cannot serve as an elected member of BCSGA, many opportunities exist for participation in various task forces and committees. Stop by the Office of Student Life and check them out. Your Student Government needs you!
