Welcome from the CCSG President/Student Trustee
Hello Panthers! Welcome to Chaffey College and the 2021-2022 academic school year! My name is Rousselle Douge and I am your Chaffey College Student Government President and Student Trustee. I am excited to represent the Chaffey College student body as we work in collaboration to promote a successful and exciting academic year. The College is undergoing transitions as things begin to open up in California, but the safety of our students is a top priority. I am sure that just as we have handled, and continue to handle, the rigors of academia and life changes during the pandemic, we will not only adapt to these new challenges, but we will thrive. Seeing students thrive is what student government is all about.
The CCSG’s mission is to engage and empower the student body, and I aim to work with the entire CCSG community to achieve these goals. By advocating for student achievement and social engagement, mindful governance can be achieved by listening to students; thus, we must work together in attaining these goals. Reach out, and participate, knowing that CCSG is working hard for the prosperity of our community of learners.
Being a student can be a demanding role. You may have pressures from inside and outside of school. There may also be times when you feel that you cannot meet everything that is required of you, and I am here to tell you that you can. Having faith in yourself is of the utmost importance. To reach those goals, you might have to step out of your comfort zone, but utilize the resources that are available to you. These resources can include tutoring, professor’s office hours, study partners and groups. Additional programs can include Disability Programs and Services (DPS), and the Extended Opportunity Programs and Services (EOPS). Even if you don’t get the outcome you desire, you can use the experience as a learning tool and try again or discover a new path. Surround yourself with people who believe in your abilities, such as family, friends and fellow students. You can connect with other students outside of class by checking out some of Chaffey’s clubs and organizations. These groups not only care about your success, but want to have an enjoyable time around a common interest. All this advice has helped me on my academic journey, and I hope it does so for you.
As a person of faith, a Bible quote that encourages me is, “I can do all things through Him who gives me strength” (Philippians 4:16).
Be encouraged, and let’s have a great school year!
CCSG President/Student Trustee, Rousselle Douge
