Multifactor Authentication (MFA)
As part of GTC’s commitment to cybersecurity and protecting student information, multi-factor authentication (MFA) is required when using GTC student accounts for accessing college systems, including email, learning management systems, and other essential student resources.
Students are required to set up and maintain access to MFA using the Microsoft Authenticator app on a mobile device. A compatible smartphone or tablet is strongly recommended to ensure seamless access. If a student does not have access to a mobile device, they should contact technical support to discuss alternative authentication options.
Failure to set up or maintain MFA access may result in difficulties accessing required academic and administrative resources.
Frequently Asked Questions
What is Multifactor Authentication (MFA)? MFA is a security process in which an individual's identity is verified using two or more independent methods of authentication. In GTC’s case, we will have two factors of authentication when you need to log into college systems: (1) Your Greenville Tech credentials – your username and password (2) A token – a number that you receive from the Microsoft Authenticator app on your mobile device. By requiring two factors for authentication, MFA significantly reduces the risk of unauthorized access to your accounts and the data you handle.
Do I need to come to campus to do this? No, you can complete this entire process from home or anywhere off-campus. Scan the QR code below for technical support information.
