Advising Tips
§ Use your GTC Gmail and include your GTC ID.
§ Self-advising is not recommended.
§ Schedule appointments to meet with your advisor. It is recommended to meet with
your advisor before registration opens.
§ Always email your advisor from your GTC Gmail account.
§ Prepare for your advising session. Bring your questions and materials for discussion.
§ Be on time or a few minutes early for your advising appointment.
§ Contact your advisor if you cannot make your appointment.
§ If you are running late, note that your advisor may have to reschedule.
§ Walk-in services are for short meetings. If you need more time, make an appointment!
§ Share your goals with your advisor and maintain a folder for advising materials.
§ Visit your advisor when you need guidance on resources to help you succeed. Your
advisor may need to refer you based on your specific questions or needs.
§ Ask questions if you have a concern or do not understand an issue. Clarification is
