It is critical that dual enrolled students who participate in athletics continue to carry the required number of credits set forth by the Georgia High School Association by-laws. In order to be eligible to participate and compete in athletics, they must carry a minimum of 2.5 units. If a dual enrolled student-athlete is considering a change in schedule that involves dropping a college level course, or decides that he /she does not want to register for the upcoming semester, they should consult with their school counselor and school athletic director to ensure that a new schedule is developed that will maintain the student’s eligibility. Failure to do so will render the student-athlete ineligible to participate and compete and could result in serious penalties/fines for the school and the student-athlete’s team from the Georgia High School Association.
