• Students on probation for two consecutive terms will lose California College Promise Grant eligibility and may also be disqualified from federal financial aid eligibility.
How to be Removed from Probation
To be removed from academic probation, students must reach a cumulative GPA of 2.00 or higher.
• Repeat courses with substandard grades and turn in Course Repeat
Annotation Form in Admissions and Records Office
o Courses to be annotated (suppression of substandard grades)
must be the exact same courses. Check with an IVC counselor before you sign up to repeat a class.
Note: Some of Saddleback College courses are not the same!
o Up to two substandard grades may be suppressed for the same course. Last grade will be computed in the student’s grade point average.
• To be removed from progress probation, students must reduce their total of W, No Pass/No Credit, or I grade to lower than 50% of all grades earned.
Academic Renewal
This policy allows students to have previously completed courses disregarded in the computation of their cumulative grade point average without having to retake the courses. Check with an IVC Counselor for more details.
Dismissal
Students are subject to dismissal when they reach three consecutively enrolled semesters of academic and/or progress probation. Because dismissal is a district process, grades at both Irvine Valley College and Saddleback College are taken into account.
Readmission After Dismissal
To return after serving dismissal for one semester, a student must:
• Reapply to the college
• Call the Counseling Office at 949-451-5319 to set up an appointment
with a counselor to review the readmission process and complete an
Appeal of Dismissal Form and a Contract for Academic Success.
• After the counseling appointment, submit both forms along with any
supporting documentation to the Office of Admissions and Records at ivc-ar-petitions@ivc.edu.
