Promotion Policies
Students will not move up to the next grade level if they do not meet the requirements. Requirements for promotion are based on the following:
Grade 10: Grade 11:
Grade 12 and
4th year students:
Schedules Changes
5 units including 1 of English, and 1 math 11 units including 2 of English, 2 math,
1 science, and 1 social studies
16 units and be enrolled in all courses required to graduate
During the summer a course schedule was compiled for each student based on the courses selected by the student during spring registration. Any request for changes to these selected courses should have been made before May. Those who did not come in by May 10 are assigned to the classes recommended by the teachers and requested by the students. Schedules may be changed only for the following reasons:
1. Student failed a subject and is scheduled to repeat it under the same teacher,
2. Student is scheduled for a class for which the required prerequisites have not been met (i.e., French II when failed French I),
3. Student is scheduled for a class for which credit has been granted,
4. Student is scheduled for the wrong grade level, or
5. A computer or scheduling error occurred where the schedule does
not reflect the course selected.
Spartanburg County Scholar’s Academy/Early College High School/Virtual School
Scholar’s Academy/Spartanburg County Early College High School/Spartanburg County Virtual School graduates will be included in the overall class rank at Byrnes High School, but will not be eligible to be recognized as Byrnes High School valedictorian, salutatorian, marshals, or ushers. They may be recognized as Scholar’s Academy/Spartanburg County Early College High School/Spartanburg County Virtual School honor graduates and receive all other appropriate rights and privileges due to their class rank.
