North Idaho College o spreading
Green Dots
n Dots
North Idaho College believes that every member of the NIC Family (students, staff, and faculty) must
take responsibility for keeping one another safe. In support of this belief, the college offers campus-
wide trainings and ongoing booster sessions on the Green Dot Bystander Intervention Strategy. The
overarching goal of Green Dot is to mobilize a force of engaged and proactive bystanders.
In its
most basic form, Green Dot uses the philosophy described below to build the core foundation of
this strategy:
What’s a RED DOT?
Red dots represent any form of violence in which the primary motivation is
assertion of power or control. This includes dating violence, sexual assault, stalking, bullying, threats,
intimidation, or harassment.
What’s a GREEN DOT?
Green dots represent that moment in time where a bystander intervenes in a
red dot situation. A
green dot
is any bystander behavior, choice, word, or attitude that communicates
intolerance for threatening or violent behavior
(a red dot).
A green dot is simply your individual
choice at any given moment to make our world safer.
This powerful program gives students, faculty, and staff the skills and confidence they need to actively
intervene in a high risk (red dot) situation in a way that is safe and works within their personal barriers
and beliefs.
Please join us in spreading green dots at North Idaho College as well as in the other communities that
you are a part of. Come to a training session to learn how you can be prepared to replace moments of
violence, harassment, or high-risk behaviors with moments of support and safety, and help others do
the same.
