Service fees and is not a grant that is refunded to students. Students are responsible for making sure all fees have been paid by end of day after registering for classes to avoid being dropped for nonpayment. Students must be admitted to the college in order to be considered for the California College Promise Grant.
Students are encouraged to complete the FAFSA application in a timely matter to be awarded a California College Promise Grant before registering for classes to avoid having to pay unnecessary out of pocket costs.
To apply for the California College Promise Grant fill out the FAFSA application (Dream Act Application, if applicable) online. The Financial Aid Office will receive the results of the FAFSA or Dream Act Applications within one week after submission and the California College Promise Grant will automatically be awarded to eligible students. Receipt of the FAFSA application results will also determine eligibility of other types of financial assistance. Students may be eligible for a fee waiver, even when determined not eligible for other types of financial aid. California College Promise Grant applicants do not have to be enrolled in a minimum number of courses to qualify.
Applicants only need to apply once to have fees waived for the entire academic award year.
Students who are currently receiving benefits from TANF/Cal-Works, SSI/SSP, General Relief, or are a certified veteran dependent by California Department of Veterans Affairs are eligible for a California College Promise Grant. Just bring in current proof of benefits (dated with the past 60 days) to the Financial Aid Office and our staff will provide you with a short California College Promise Grant application to complete. However, students are strongly recommended to complete the FAFSA or Dream Act application online so that we can determine if you are eligible for other types of aid.
Whether you want to move into a career or move on to a four-year university, San Bernardino Valley College wants to help you achieve your educational goals. The California College Promise Grant is available for eligible students at California community colleges, and will waive your per-unit enrollment fee at San Bernardino Valley College.
Once you’ve qualified for the California College Promise Grant, it’s important to ensure that you’re meeting the academic and progress standards in order to avoid losing the fee waiver.
