ADMISSIONS CRITERIA
The program has a limited enrollment and only admits a class in the spring of each year. Ap- plications and supporting documents must be completed and submitted by Phase I deadline, if applicable. If all slots have not been  lled after the above deadline, there may be extensions to the deadline. Please check with the Admissions Of ce about the status of the program.
PHASE I - To be completed by Oct. 31
The applicant must:
1. Complete an application (if not currently enrolled). Designate Emergency Medical Sci-
ence AAS Degree (A45340) as the program of interest. If you are a current student, see
Admissions to complete a change of major form if you wish to apply to the program.
2. Be a high school graduate or have earned a high school equivalency diploma (GED).
Exception: current high school students
3. Be enrolled in EMS Certi cate C45340 or C45340CP. Must be enrolled or show
evidence of completion of ACA 111. Students who already hold current NC EMT or NC EMT Intermediate may be eligible for advanced placement credit for EMS 110 at the discretion of the Program Coordinator.
4. Submit of cial copies of all transcripts (high school and college). Transcripts must be sent directly from the institution. It is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all necessary records are sent to the College Admissions Of ce.
5. Have a cumulative grade point average of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale on the most recent academic transcript with ten semester hours completed excluding developmental courses.
6. Meet the Southwestern Community College Placement Test requirement. This may be met by one of the following methods:
a. High school GPA of 2.8 or higher within the past 10 years: student is eligible for
Phase II of the selective admission process.
b. High school GPA of 2.2-2.79 within the past 10 years: student will be eligible for
Phase II of the selective admission process. Successful completion of ENG 111 and MAT 143 and their corresponding corequisites is a required corequisite of the pro- gram.
c. High school GPA of below 2.2 within the past 10 years: student will be eligible for Phase II of the selective admission process after completion of required transition English and math courses.
d. High school graduation prior to the past 10 years: student will be eligible for Phase II of the selective admission process after successful completion of the RISE placement test or the required transition English and math courses.
7. Must take TEAS - Allied Health Exam. Refer to the website for cut-off scores.
8. Submit a copy of a current/valid North Carolina drivers license.
9. Be 18 years of age prior to the  rst semester of the program. Exception: current high
school students must turn 18 within one year of completion of EMS 110
10. Special legal requirements exist which may limit the ability of an individual to obtain clinical
experience, employment, or certi cation in this  eld. Prospective students should obtain additional information from a program faculty member prior to seeking admission.
