COURSE DESCRIPTIONS
CTS 120 Hardware/Software Support (2-3-3)
This course covers the basic hardware of a personal computer, including installation, operations and interactions with software. Topics include component identification, memory-system, peripheral installation and con guration, preventive maintenance, hard- ware diagnostics/repair, installation and optimization of system software, commercial programs, system con guration, and device-drivers. Upon completion, students should be able to select appropriate computer equipment and software, upgrade/maintain existing equipment and software, and troubleshoot/repair non-functioning personal computers.
CTS 130 Spreadsheet (2-2-3)
This course introduces basic spreadsheet design and development. Topics include writ- ing formulas, using functions, enhancing spreadsheets, creating charts, and printing. Upon completion, students should be able to design and print basic spreadsheets and charts.
CTS 155 Tech Support Functions (2-2-3)
This course introduces a variety of diagnostic and instructional tools that are used to evaluate the performance of technical support technologies. Emphasis is placed on techni- cal support management techniques and support technologies. Upon completion, students should be able to determine the best technologies to support and solve actual technical support problems.
CTS 250 User Support & Software Evaluation (2-2-3)
This course provides an opportunity to evaluate software and hardware and make recom- mendations to meet end-user needs. Emphasis is placed on software and hardware evalua- tion, installation, training, and support. Upon completion, students should be able to present proposals and make hardware and software recommendations based on their evaluations.
CTS 289 System Support Project (1-4-3)
Prerequisite: CTI-110, CTI-120 & CTS-115
This course provides an opportunity to complete a signi cant support project with minimal
instructor assistance. Emphasis is placed on written and oral communication skills, project de - nition, documentation, installation, testing, presentation, and user training. Upon completion, students should be able to complete a project from the de nition phase through implementation.
COMPUTER TECHNOLOGY INTEGRATION
CTI 110 Web, Program, and Db Foundation (2-2-3)
This course covers the introduction of the tools and resources available to students in pro- gramming, mark-up language and services on the Internet. Topics include standard mark-up language Internet services, creating web pages, using search engines, le transfer programs; and database design and creation with DBMS products. Upon completion students should be able to demonstrate knowledge of programming tools, deploy a website with mark-up tools, and create a simple database table.
CTI 120 Network & Sec Foundation (2-2-3)
This course introduces students to the Network concepts, including networking terminol- ogy and protocols, local and wide area networks, and network standards. Emphasis is placed on securing information systems and the various implementation policies. Upon completion, students should be able to perform basic tasks related to networking mathematics, terminol- ogy, media and protocols.
