OUR MISSION
ABOUT USF STUDENT GOVERNMENT ///
The mission of the Student Government at the University of South Florida is to be the premier opportunity in becoming engaged, provide the setting for all students to be equally heard and represented, and maximally enhance each student’s experience and development.
EXECUTIVE BRANCH
The Executive branch is responsible for executing the initiatives and programs of Student Government.
In consolidation, the Student Body President and Vice President are responsible for representing students across all three USF campuses and throughout Florida. Whereas individual representation from each campus occurs through the elected positions of Governor and Lieutenant Governor, who are tasked with executing the initiatives and programs of Student Government on their respective campuses. The branch supports and provides events across the campuses such as the ones listed on the following page which highlight SG services, programs, and traditions. Getting involved with the executive branch is simple, as there are a wide variety of opportunities for engagement and various paid positions that students can apply for.
LEGISLATIVE BRANCH – SENATE & CAMPUS COUNCIL
The Senate is the legislative body of Student Government responsible for advocating for students and the annual allocation of over $19 million dollars, which is collected from Activity and Service fees (A&S) every student pays in their tuition. These allocations fund entities such as the Campus Recreation Centers, Marshall Student Center, Student Organization Grants, USF Week and Homecoming; as well as over 300 different diverse student organizations.
To be part of the Legislative Branch, you must be elected to a seat from your campus. Elections occur at the beginning of Fall and Spring terms. In additional to Senate, each campus has a local Campus Council that is responsible for interim funding for both student organizations and departments, travel grants, homecoming grants, and local campus confirmations.
JUDICIAL BRANCH – SUPREME COURT
The USF Student Government Supreme Court serves to administer proper action when Student Government Law is misinterpreted or violated and has jurisdiction over all cases and controversies involving Student Government. The Supreme Court is made up of nine student justices, a judicial clerk and is led by the Chief, Ranking and Senior Justices. Justices are appointed by the Student Body President with the advice and consent of the Senate. The Judicial Branch also has the final jurisdiction over parking citations and holds parking appeals as a service for students.
If you have received a parking citation and believe extenuating circumstances might warrant the dismissal or reduction of your fine, you may appeal the citation with the Parking and Transportation Services for reconsideration. Parking appeals must be made within 14 calendar days of receiving the citation. Students may request assistance during the final appeal process from Student Government. To request assistance please email studentgovernment@usf.edu
