                STUDENT ACCESSIBILITY SERVICES
ACADEMIC ACCOMMODATIONS/DISABILITY ADVOCACY/DISABILITY AWARENESS
Accommodating for Student Success
Whether you have a disability, know someone who has a disability or are simply interested in creating a campus environment that welcomes all abilities, Student Accessibility Services (SAS) is here to work with you.
What are Accommodations?
Some of the most commonly used academic accommodations include note taking technology, extended time on exams and reduced distraction testing. SAS also coordinates American Sign Language Interpreters, transcriptionists, electronic textbooks, and Braille resources. SAS can assist with faculty communications about accommodations and disability needs that may influence a student’s performance in the classroom.
SAS offers temporary accommodations to students with injuries, too!
How does a student register for SAS?
To register with SAS, visit www.usf.edu/sas and click on the “Access SAS” logo. Applicants will need a Net ID and password. Once logged in, click on “Application.” From there, answer the brief questions and attach any medical or disability documentation available.
If documentation is not available in an electronic form, applicants may submit to SAS in person or by mail.
Applications submitted without documentation are incomplete. SAS responds to all complete applications within 10 business days. SAS responds by USF email addresses.
What should a student do if there is a concern about a disability accommodation?
There are a number of campus resources for disability concerns. SAS is a good place to start. Contact any member of the SAS staff to discuss concerns.
Does SAS sponsor any events or programs?
SAS works continuously to improve and promote disability awareness at USF. SAS promotes an “Accessibull Ally” training. Contact SAS Outreach Coordinator, Patricia Owen, at owenp@usf.edu for information on available training sessions. Visit the SAS website for information regarding the annual Accessibull events. Accessibull is the name of the official disability awareness programs sponsored by SAS.
