RETURNING STUDENTS:
JANUARY
▫ January 3: College reopens from holiday break
Welcome back! Remember those things you did last August? Time to
☐ complete them again:
o Check your account balance to make sure you have a zero or credit
balance by the fee payment deadline
o Check your financial aid status on My WS
o Check your schedule on My WS to make sure your courses are
at the correct day/time, campus location, etc. Also, make sure that
none of your classes have been cancelled.
o Purchase textbooks. Find what textbooks you need at
http://www.ws.edu/student-services/bookstore/. o Find your classrooms before classes begin
☐ Complete a renewal FAFSA for the upcoming academic year if you haven’t done so already
NEW STUDENTS:
☐ Welcome to Walters State! You will need to complete all of the things mentioned for returning students above, but will also need to:
o Orient yourself with campus. Visit campus and find your classrooms
before classes begin and be aware of the location of student services,
the cafeteria, and other places of interest on campus.
o If you are receiving a balance from your financial aid, set up direct
deposit on your My WS account
ALL STUDENTS:
☐ January 17: Spring classes begin
☐ Attend/engage in all of your classes and make sure your
attendance/engagement in classes is updated correctly on My WS
☐ Check your eLEARN through your My WS account immediately for course
information
☐ Read your class syllabus! You will receive a course syllabus in each
class that has important information about the course, test dates, assignment due dates, and instructor contact information
During the first week of classes, make any drop/add schedule adjustments to your schedule, if necessary
☐ Get organized. Use your student planner, designate specific study times, and organize your school supplies.
