are from areas or schools with low-eligibility or college-going rates. Cal-SOAP was established by the state legislature in 1978 and today operates projects in 14 locations throughout the state. Cal-SOAP is funded and administered by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC).
Foster & Kinship Care Education Program (FKCE)
The mission of BC’s FKCE is to provide quality education and support opportunities to caregivers of children and youth in out- of-home care so that these providers may meet the educational, emotional, behavioral and developmental needs of children and youth in the foster care system.
AB540 Support Program
The Bakersfield College AB540 Program provides a comprehensive program of services for students who are eligible under the AB540 out of state tuition exemption. The goal of the program is to help eligible students meet their educational objectives, whether they seek occupational certificates, associate degrees, or transfer to four–year institutions.

The Child Development Center at Bakersfield College (CDC) offers a student service with the primary goal of providing a comprehensive child development program that serves students, families and their children 2-5 years of age. Our role is to provide the time and support to assist student families in achieving their chosen academic/career goals. The CDC demonstration laboratory classrooms offer a model of best practices in early childhood education while providing students with learning opportunities through observation and on-floor interactions with young children and their families. The center is licensed through the California Department of Social Services. All teachers are professionally trained in the field of early childhood education, and are certificated through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Child Development Center was rated a 4 star center by Kern Early Stars. Placement in the program is made according to state and federal priorities and is designed for income eligible families who are enrolled in college courses leading to a specific career/professional goal.

The Bakersfield College Bookstore operated by Barnes and Noble College is committed to providing all textbooks, supplies, and spirit gear needs to students. The Bookstore is completely self-supporting with no funds allocated from the District for its operations. A portion of the store's proceeds stay on campus and support campus initiatives. The store also carries a wide variety of art supplies, backpacks, electronics, software, clothing, food, drinks, gifts, reference materials, graduation paraphernalia, alumni goods and gifts. Other services provided are: new and used textbook rentals, special book orders, ink cartridge, book buyback, and bus passes. Bookstore hours are extended during the first two weeks of the fall and spring semester and the first week of the summer semester. Specific hours of operation are available online or by calling the Bookstore.

Bakersfield College recognizes that technology is a vehicle to access the most current and extensive sources of information throughout the campus. The use of technology prepares students for 21st Century careers. Bakersfield College provides technology for a limited educational purpose. This means students may use these resources for classroom activities and other school related work. Students may not use District technology for commercial purposes; students may not offer, provide, or purchase products or services using District technology. Students may use District technology only for class assignments or for personal research on subjects similar to what they might study in a class or in the school library. Use for entertainment purposes or personal communication, such as personal blogging, instant messaging, online shopping, or gaming is not allowed.
