100% Tobacco-Free Initiative
The United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has found secondhand tobacco smoke to be a risk to public health and has classified secondhand smoke as a group ‘A’ carcinogen, the most dangerous class of carcinogen. Furthermore, the California Air Resources Board has categorized secondhand smoke as a toxic air contaminant. Tobacco smoke and tobacco products are hazardous to smokers and non-smokers alike.
It is the commitment of Bakersfield College to provide and maintain an environment that is conducive to the health and safety of its students, employees, and visitors. In light this and the findings of the U.S. Surgeon General that the use of tobacco and exposure to secondhand smoke pose significant health hazards, Bakersfield College, as provided in District Policy 3570, has established a smoke, vapor, and tobacco-free environment to be initiated Fall 2017.
The use and/or sale of all tobacco products will be prohibited on all property and in all indoor and outdoor spaces owned, leased, licensed, or otherwise controlled by Bakersfield College, and in all District owned vehicles assigned to Bakersfield College. This prohibition includes smoking using electronic smoking devices and hookahs.
For individuals interested in quitting smoking or smokeless tobacco use, the Student Health and Wellness Center will provide free cessation services. Additionally, for help quitting, contact the California Smokers› helpline at 1-800-NO-BUTTS, Kern County Public Health Department, or www.californiasmokershelpline.org. Other resources and information can be acquired from the Student Health and Wellness Center and the web site.
PARKING SERVICES

In addition to maintaining campus safety, Department of College Safety (DCS) also provides parking enforcement services. For information on purchasing a parking permit, disputing a parking violation citation, or updating vehicle information visit our offices in Levinson Hall 23. DCS encourages students to purchase parking permits prior to the start of each semester through our website.
All vehicles parked on Bakersfield College campuses must abide by all Parking and Traffic Rules and Regulations. Vehicles may be issued citations for illegal parking, failure to display a valid parking permit, or any other violation including California Vehicle Code violation. All vehicles parked on the Bakersfield College campuses must display a current semester parking permit or daily parking permit on the lower driver side windshield in a clearly visible manner. Semester permits are purchased online or at Business Services. Daily parking permits may also be purchased from any kiosks in the parking lots or in Business Services.
Permit Replacement
If a vehicle is sold or change of ownership occurs, the permit should be removed and placed on the new vehicle. Damaged or malfunctioning permits should be returned to DCS. Authorization for a replacement permit will be granted for stolen permits upon completion of a police report. A processing fee will be charged. Replacement authorization is not granted for stolen permits unless a police report is made within 24 hours of the date of loss. Authorization is subject to approval by DCS.
Guest Parking
Guest Parking Permits may be issued in advance by the Department of College Safety. Guest Parking Permits must be displayed on the driver’s side front dashboard, visible from the outside of the vehicle. Guest permits are not valid in reserved or metered stalls. Tampering with Guests permits will result in invalidating the permit and the vehicle will be subject to a citation for parking without a valid permit.
Handicapped Parking
While displaying a valid handicapped permit you do not need a student permit to park in a handicapped parking stall or in any timed area without a time limit imposed upon you. If all handicapped parking stalls are full, you may park in any student or staff parking lot by displaying a valid student parking permit and a valid handicapped placard issued to you. Misuse of a handicapped placard will result in a fine of $275.00, along with the handicapped placard being confiscated and returned to the DMV with a copy of a report detailing the misuse. You may be subject to Student Code of Conduct Violations as well.
Towing of Vehicle for Outstanding Parking Violations
If you receive more than five parking citations that are all outstanding (fines not paid) your vehicle may be towed away at your own expense. You will be responsible for all towing fees, storage fees and all parking fines will need to be paid before the vehicle is released back into your custody
