Associate Degree Guidelines
The Associate Degree requires 60 degree applicable or transfer level units. Multiple degrees may be awarded when all general education requirements and major requirements are satisfied.
The 60 units include the following types of courses:
1. General Education Courses
2. BC Major Courses
3. Elective courses, if needed to reach 60 units
Additional Graduation Requirements:
✓ Multicultural Course
✓ Educational planning courses, recommended first semester: STDV B1, STDV B2, STDV B6 ✓ A Cumulative GPA of 2.0 is required on all degree applicable units.
✓ Students must complete Graduation Competencies that include the following:
➢ English: English B1a with a minimum grade of "C"
➢ Math: 2 years of high school algebra OR Math BD OR MATH B70, with a minimum grade of "C" or an
equivalent score on the placement/assessment (students will be required to complete an appropriate
mathematics course listed in the general education pattern). ✓ BC offers five types of Degrees
1. Associate in Arts (18-24 units major preparation)
2. Associate in Science (24-30 units major preparation) 3. Associate of Arts for Transfer (AA-T)
4. Associate of Science for Transfer (AS-T)
5. Bachelor of Science (BS)
Commencement Ceremonies
Commencement ceremonies are held once each year in May. Students who complete their degree requirements during the fall, summer, or spring prior to the ceremony or who will complete them in the following summer, are eligible to participate. Diplomas are mailed to graduates once all graduation petitions have been reviewed 12 weeks after the semester the petition is for.
The associate in arts or the associate in science degree shall be conferred by the Board of Trustees of the Kern Community College District upon a Bakersfield College student who has satisfactorily completed the requirements. These requirements are consistent with those prescribed by the Board of Governors of the California Community Colleges and the Board of Trustees of the Kern Community College District.
 Dates for Graduation
A student completing their final coursework in the summer, but who would like to participate in the once-a-year May commencement ceremony, should file for summer graduation beginning Oct 15th. Students may begin filing for Graduation at the start of the following dates:

Complete the Graduation Petition Form Check your Transcript Totals
Log in to InsideBC.
Click on "MyBanWeb" on the top menu bar.
Select "View Transcript."
Click “Submit.”
Click “Transcript Totals” or scroll to the bottom of the transcript.
In the table below “Transcript Totals (Bakersfield),” look at “Overall” and “Earned Hours.” This must indicate 30 units or more.
If you have at least 30-degree applicable units for your degree, it is time to submit your graduation petition to the Admissions and Records office via your BC Student Email address to bcrecords@kccd.edu. We will not accept the petition via any personal email accounts.

Transfer Credit/Units

If you have units/credits from another regionally accredited institution/college, you must submit Official Transcripts from these
                colleges before the semester is over OR when you see your final grades posted from that college.
