                 Campus Traditions
School Colors: Green & White
Bemidji State University adopted its school colors of green and white in 1920. During a deadlocked campus debate on the selection
of campus colors, student Cyrillus Freeman said that looking out of
the window revealed “fresh green pines silhouetted against pure
white snow.” Her suggestion was unanimously adopted by the assembly.
Home of the Beavers
In May of 1932 while attending a football practice, Bemidji State Teachers College President Dr. Manfred Deputy called the team together and commented that they were “working as hard as beavers.” The nickname symbolizes hard work and endurance.
