• Conducting biannual Title I parent surveys
• Ensuring each Title I school conducts an annual Title I meeting using the SDE/LEA
provided PowerPoint
• Utilizing district school messenger system will be a responsibility for both district and
school personnel
• Providing weekly updates to parents through emails, Facebook, twitter, Instagram,
YouTube and the local school, Birmingham City Schools’ website and individual schools’
websites
• Training at least one Parent Leader per Title I School
• Utilizing Title I Parent Leaders as liaisons between the district and local schools
• Training Title I Parent Leaders, school staff and other parents to assist in conducting
Parent Focus Groups
• Providing support to Title I Schools in conducting monthly parent workshops
• Providing access to technology and other education services to parents
• Administering pre and post evaluations to Title I Parent Leaders in order to increase and
measure parents’ knowledge of Title I
Do we have any barriers to parent engagement that need to be addressed?
The barriers the LEA and schools face are:
• Transient families
• Working parents who do not have flexible schedules
• Parents with Limited English Proficiency
• Funds to provide meals at lunch and dinner meetings
• Information disseminated to parents in a timely manner
• Parents feeling welcomed in local schools
• Transportation
• Not enough translators to assist EL parents
• All parents not having home access to the internet
• Contact information from parents is not always accurate or up to date
• No designated site at the LEA level to conduct workshops/trainings
• No designated place in some schools to conduct workshops/training
• Lack of active Title I Parent Leaders at every Title I school
• Lack of acquire LEA support staff
• Lack of a designated staff member at each school whose responsibility is to work with
parents
• Lack of district level support
• Lack of Principal engagement in Title I Parent activities
• Lack of parental support
• Time framing of events
• Not enough telecommunication ability to reach mass audience
