This is an agreement between the school, parent and child. A new compact should be signed each year.

Virtual Academy School-Parent Compact
In order to fulfill the requirements of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA) of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA), the Birmingham City Schools System (BCS) agrees to implement the formation of partnerships between the home, school, and community; recognizes that the parent is the child’s first and most important teacher; and provide students with the skills to meet the challenging academic standards required by the Alabama State Department of Education.
Mission
The mission of Birmingham City Schools (BCS) is to guide all students to achieve excellence in a safe, secure, and nurturing environment.
Vision
The Birmingham City Schools will be a recognized leader in public education, meeting the needs of a diverse student population prepared to succeed in a global society

(Family And Community Engagement K-12 School) SCHOOL-PARENT COMPACT
The Virtual Academy, and the parents of the students participating in activities, services, and programs funded by Title I, Part A of the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015 (ESSA) (participating children), agree that this compact outlines how the parents, the entire school staff, and the students will share the responsibility for improved student academic achievement and the means by which the school and parents will build and develop a partnership that will help children achieve the State’s high standards.
This school-parent compact is in effect during school year 2020-2021 .
