Here in Birmingham, we are fortunate to be able to offer the newest educational approach to preparing you for careers in growth industries – the BCS Academies. These small learning communities help to focus you on the areas you’re most interested in and give you the tools you need either to go straight to work right out of your senior year, or further pursue your options in college.
Academies like the ones we have in Birmingham are already proven to help people like you find a career path that fits and successfully pursue it. There are over 200 academies in 40 states and the District of Columbia.
Academies work by teaching you what you need to know in class and then giving you hands-on experience in real-world settings, so that you can see how what you’re learning in school will actually get used in your chosen career. In the academies, you will be exposed along the way to how what you’re interested in is actually applied.
Students will interact with teachers and guest speakers who are actively working in their field, have job shadowing, true field-based experience and be exposed to many career options.
