Philosophy: We believe young children should be involved in direct, hands-on experiences with people, objects, ideas, and events. Children’s intellectual, social, emotional and physical development occurs naturally when they are engaged in active learning opportunities of exploration and discovery. Adults facilitate child- initiated activities that promote investigation, decision-making, cooperation, persistence, and problem solving.
Goal: To enhance skills in personal and social development, language and literacy, mathematical thinking, scientific thinking, social-emotional development, technology, creative arts, physical development, and health.
Purpose: To provide students with a high quality developmentally appropriate educational experience enabling them to be successful and increasing school readiness in a safe and nurturing environment.
Outcome: The Preschool curriculum is based on developmentally appropriate practices, teaching in ways that match the way the children develop and learn. Developmentally appropriate practice provides children with opportunities to learn and practice newly acquired skills. It offers challenges just beyond the level of their present mastery and it takes place in a safe and nurturing environment.
The learning environment includes learning centers, established schedules and routines, organized choice times, and small- and large-group activities. This structure creates a classroom community in which children learn how to get along with others and solve problems peacefully.
