When Sick is too sick to attend school
• Draining/ Crusting from eyes
• Any contagious Illness (Strep, bronchitis, Pink eye, Flu, and COVID-19) • Diarrhea
• Fatigue, Muscle or body aches
• New loss of taste or smell
• Shortness of Breath (Seek Medical attention immediately).
• Temperature greater than 99.4 (Students are excluded from school for
72 hours without medication or return to school.
• Persistent Coughing
• Undiagnosed Rash
• Purplish/bluish toes
• Headache with sore throat, congestion or runny nose • Nausea/Vomiting

As district leaders continue to establish guidelines to combat the impact of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has had on our school system, we realize that while the district must restructure its models of education in preparation for the upcoming school year 2020-2021, our ultimate goal of providing students with a high quality education remains our main mission. The leaders of Birmingham City Schools will continue to monitor the data surrounding COVID-19 as well as consider the recommendations for parents and other stakeholders prior to making a decision that will impact the safety of our students, their families and our employees.
