TRIO STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES
TRIO Student Support Services TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) is a program that helps you graduate and transfer to a 4-year college or university to pursue a bachelor’s degree. TRIO SSS provides personalized advising and coaching in the areas of degree planning, academics, transferring, career and major exploration, financial aid, scholarships, and financial literacy. We also offer leadership opportunities, fun events, and personal support. The TRIO SSS program is 100% funded by a grant from the U.S. Department of Education ($253,032 in 2019-20) and has limited spaces available, so an application is required and students must meet certain eligibility criteria to join. TUTORING SERVICES
Academic Support Services provides a variety of tutoring services, all free to Carl Sandburg College students. The Tutoring Center offers individualized assistance in many different subject areas, including math, writing and science, to any students on the Galesburg or Carthage campus who may need it and via video chat for online students. Sessions for special tutoring topics, such as accounting, nursing and dental hygiene, may be scheduled on an arranged basis; similarly, face-to-face tutoring may be arranged at the Carthage campus as needed. A 24/7 online tutoring option, Brainfuse, is available to all students at all locations. Students can get to Brainfuse by clicking the Brainfuse logo on their mySandburg page. VETERANS ASSISTANCE
State and federal assistance is available at Carl Sandburg College for qualified veterans, military personnel and the children and spouses of veterans who died or are permanently and totally disabled as the result of a service-connected disability. For information on eligibility, contact the coordinator of veterans and military services in the Financial Aid Office. Academic programs listed in the catalog as “Pending ICCB Approval” are not eligible for VA Certification until the approval is received from ICCB and approved by the Department of Veterans Affairs.
CERTIFICATION INFORMATION
• Students receive VA educational benefits only for those courses that apply to their declared academic major.
• Students receiving educational benefits from the VA must complete all of the semester hours for which they are certified. Students who do not complete their semester hours may be responsible to repay funds to the VA received for that semester.
