 PUBLIC SAFETY  32                 Emergency procedures There is an emergency procedures pamphlet in every classroom, usually located on the wall by the main door. Review this pamphlet, which has different emergency situations and tips to keep yourself safe while on or off campus. Also listed in the pamphlet are signs indicating the location of tornado shelters and AEDs. Tornado shelter Automated external defibrillator (AED) ALICE In case of an active shooter, if you’re in a classroom, you’ll need to take guidance from your faculty. If this type of emergency situation arises and you are not in a classroom, be prepared to take action to keep yourself safe. Sandburg practices ALICE: • ALERT — Initial alert may be a gunshot. • LOCKDOWN — If evacuation is not a safe option, barricade entry points. Prepare to evacuate or counter if needed. • INFORM — Communicate real-time information on the shooter’s location. Use clear and direct language using any communication means possible. • COUNTER — As a last resort, distract the shooter’s ability to shoot accurately. Move toward exits while making noise, throwing objects or swarm the shooter. • EVACUATE — Run from danger when safe to do so using non-traditional exits if necessary. Rallying points should be predetermined.      Outdoor emergency phones Indoor emergency phones EMERGENCY PHONES Sandburg has emergency phones inside and outside of campus buildings. Push the button and you will be connected with Sandburg Public Safety dispatch. When you hear the dispatcher speak, tell them your emergency, and an officer will respond immediately. LOST & FOUND Found items can be turned in or lost items can be claimed in the Public Safety office located in D201. At the Carthage campus, the lost & found area is in the main office. All unclaimed items are donated to charity at the end of each semester.
