STEP 3:
Once you have added all units attempted and the grade points, compute your GPA by dividing the number of grade points by units attempted.
Grade points divided by units attempted = GPA Example:
COURSE
Psychology 5
Business 1B
Math 70**
English 1A
History 1A
Spanish 4
UNITS ATTEMPTED GRADE
3 A=4 4 F=0 5 C=2 4 B=3 3 B=3 1 D=1
GRADE POINT 3×4=12 4×0= 0 5×2=10 4×3=12 3×3= 9 4×1= 4

TOTAL 20
47 grade points divided by 20 units attempted = 2.35
NOTE: “D” and “F” grades are calculated into GPA. P/NP courses are not calculated into
the GPA.
Transferable GPA - This is the GPA that is calculated using the transferable courses, and is the GPA that is used for admission criteria at four-year institutions.
STEP 1–Obtain a copy of transcripts from all colleges attended. To determine your transferable GPA, you must include grades from previous colleges attended if the courses are transferrable.
STEP 2-Line out the classes that are not transferable. Refer to the College Catalog or go to the ASSIST website (www.assist.org) to find out what classes are UC/CSU transferable. Meet with a counselor for a full transcript evaluation.
STEP 3– Add up the units attempted for each class and the grade points for those classes. Grade points are calculated by multiplying units attempted by the grade point value for the grade received in each class.
A = 4 points, B = 3 points, C = 2 points, D = 1 point, F = 0 points
STEP 4– Once you have added all the units attempted and the grade points, compute your GPA by dividing the number of grade points by units attempted.
Grade Points ÷ Units Attempted = GPA Notes:
•CR/NC courses and W’s are not calculated into the GPA.
•A grade of D (including plus/minus) in a transferable course will count toward the number of transferable units you have completed. However, grades of D do not satisfy major requirements and may not meet general education requirements.
•Courses that transfer to CSU may not transfer to UC.
NOTE: ** Make sure you consult with the College Catalog
NOTE: ** Make sure you consult with the ECC Catalog and see if the course is transferable or not to calculate your transferable GPA – under the title of the course, it will say “Transfer CSU” or Transfer CSU, UC.”
