First Time College Students as of July 1, 2012
Effective July 1, 2012, new, first-time college students who do not have a high school diploma or a General Education Diploma (GED) those who have not passed the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) and those who do not have a home school certificate, are NOT eligible for federal financial aid. Students are encouraged to contact their local adult school to inquire about completing a high school diploma, a General Education Diploma (GED) or taking the California High School Proficiency Exam (CHSPE) to meet this minimum requirement.
AB 540
AB 540 students are exempt from paying non-resident enrollment fees under Education Code Section 68130.5. Under the provisions of AB 131, students who are exempt from paying nonresident enrollment fees are eligible to participate in the Cal Grant Programs, Full-Time Student Success Grant program and Board of Governors (BOG) Fee Waiver program.
California College Promise Grant (formerly known as Board of Governors Fee Waiver)
The California College Promise Grant (CCPG) - formerly known as the Board of Governors Fee Waiver (BOG) - is a state sponsored program that waives enrollment fees for qualifying students who are California residents. The CCPG is only available at California Community Colleges. CCPG applicants do not have to be enrolled in a minimum number of units -whether you take 1 unit or 21 units, your enrollment fees will be waived. CCPG applicants only need to apply once per academic year for the fees to be waived for the academic year (Fall, Winter, Spring, and Summer).
How do I apply?
There are three ways to apply for the CCPG: 1. FAFSA or
2. California Dream Act Application or
3. Complete the CCPG Application.
How do I qualify?
The three most common methods of qualifying are:
Method A - for students on public assistance programs such as TANF/CalWORKs, SSI, SSP, or General Assistance. Documentation will be required to verify your eligibility and must be dated within the last 60 days.
Method B - for low-income students whose income was within qualifying income guide- lines established by the California Student Aid Commission (CSAC).
