the school year on campus and in the community.
Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (SEOG) – This grant is for students who demonstrate the highest financial need.
Federal Direct Loan Program – Compton College will no longer participate in the Federal Direct Loan Program effective the 2015-2016 Award Year. This means that Compton College will no longer offer subsidized, unsubsidized and PLUS parent loans as of the fall semester 2013.
State-Based Financial Aid
Cal Grants – Cal Grant awards are state-funded monetary grants given to California residents to help pay for college expenses and do not have to be paid back. The amount of a Cal Grant, which is always contingent upon state funding, varies depending upon what type of Cal Grant award students receive. Cal Grant A recipients attending a community college will not receive any payment as the award may be held in reserve for two years for use when they transfer to a university. Cal Grant B award recipients may receive up to $1,656 at a California community college, and Cal Grant C recipients may receive up to $576 at a California community college.
Full-Time Student Success Grant
Full-Time Student Success Grants (FTSSG) are awarded to students who are receiving the Cal Grant B Access Award and taking 12 units or more. The intent of FTSSG funding is to support student persistence, retention and success.
Chafee Grant – Chafee Grant recipients may qualify for up to $5,000 per year as long as they are current or former foster youth who have not reached their 22nd birthday as of July 1st of the award year.
Community College Completion Grant (New)
The Community College Completion Grant (CCCG) pays Cal grant recipients who are enrolled in 15 units. Students must have a comprehensive student Educational Plan (SEP) with Compton College and all 15 units must be from the SEP. Students must also maintain a cumulative 2.0 GPA at all times.
Freeze Date Implementation
The freeze date will lock units as of the census date for fall and spring semesters to determine financial aid eligibility for the term. This means that any changes to unit load following the census date (e.g., registration in late-start classes, course withdrawals) will not result in changes to financial aid awards unless a student drops from all units. Students need to register early for classes in order to receive the maximum financial aid award.
