STUDENT SUCCESS and SUPPORT PROGRAM (SSSP)
The Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) is geared toward helping students achieve academic success at Compton College. All new students must complete the steps to enrollment, which includes a new student orientation, completion of English and math assessment tests and academic counseling to develop both an abbreviated and comprehensive educational plan.
The Student Success and Support Program includes the following services:
Orientation provides new students with an overview of college policies and procedures, college programs, student support services, academic expectations and the steps to enrollment process. In addition, new students are provided with the support they need to successfully transition into college.
Assessment Center provides students an opportunity for testing in English, math and English as a second language (ESL) for determination of placement into courses. Counselors use the assessment tests and multiple measures to create educational plans. (All students are encouraged to review study guides before taking placement tests.)
Counseling/Advising provides students with a customized list of courses to take to achieve their academic goal. This list is called a Student Educational Plan (SEP). New students will develop an abbreviated SEP to provide the student with a list of courses they can take in their first and/or second semesters at Compton College. Students will return to the Counseling Department after 15 units or two semesters to meet with a counselor to develop their comprehensive SEP. The comprehensive SEP will outline all of the courses necessary for the student to reach their educational goal: transfer to a four-year university, obtain a vocational certificate or earn an associate degree.
Follow-up provides additional support to ensure the success of every student at Compton College. Student Services advisors located in the Welcome Center and the Counseling Department will
