STEP 4: COMPLETE ANY REQUIRED MAJOR PREREQUISITES
In order to be most competitive and most prepared, courses specified in the particular major
at the university you have chosen should be completed before transfer. You will want to
consult
or check the major guide sheets located in the Counseling Center
for specific major requirements at various colleges and universities. If transferring to a UC,
please inquire about the Transfer Admissions Guarantee (TAG) agreements that we offer
with UC Irvine, UC Santa Barbara, UC Davis, UC Santa Cruz, UC Riverside and UC
Merced. All TAGs require that you take transferable English and math courses early in
your ECC educational plan. If transferring to a CSU, inquire about Transfer Associate
(AA/AS-T) degrees that will enable you to streamline admission major requirements for
most CSU campuses, in addition to earning and ECC AA/AS degree prior to transferring to
the university.
If the particular CSU campus that you are interested in has a degree “deemed similar,” that
CSU campus will offer you a slight GPA bump ensuring some admission priority over other
students.
STEP 5: FILE AN ADMISSIONS APPLICATION TO UNIVERSITIES
Apply to multiple campuses – don’t put all of your eggs in one basket. Be aware of the
priority application filing deadlines (check with the Transfer Center for deadlines) and
apply early. Apply online.
STEP 6: FILE FOR GE CERTIFICATION AT THE RECORDS WINDOW
If you will have the CSU GE pattern or the IGETC completed before transferring to the
university, request CSU or IGETC general education certification at the Admissions
Window. The request should be made during your last semester at El Camino College,
after you have been admitted to universities and have decided where you will enroll.
