ACADEMIC TERMINOLOG
Full-time or Part-time
§ Full-time – Enrolled in 12 or more credit hours. Twelve hours does not always equate to 4 courses; since some courses may only be 1 or 2 credit hours.
§ Part-time – Enrolled in 6-11 credit hours.
§ Note: Financial Aid may prorate time to 3⁄4 time or less than halftime depending on
enrolled hours.
Course Offering Types
§ Face-to-Face – Face-to-face classes are offered in a traditional classroom setting.
§ Online – Online classes are taught via the Internet. Students log on to classes through Blackboard. Many online courses require additional publisher software. Some online classes require on-campus attendance. For example, students taking Speech online must come to campus to present the speech in front of a class. Also, many online courses require students to come to the Academic Testing Center on the Barton Campus to test. All online classes monitor and record attendance on a weekly basis.
§ Blended – Blended classes combine online learning and face-to-face instruction. The schedule and structure (which include online assignments and discussion forums as well as required labs) can vary significantly from one class to another.
§ Labs – Many courses, like Biology, will have a lab requirement. Typically, these courses are 4-credit hours. When planning your course schedule, look for the lecture and the lab time requirements.
Prerequisite / Co-Requisite
§ Prerequisite - Any course listed as a prerequisite must be passed with a grade of C or higher before the subsequent course may be taken.
§ Co-requisite - Any course listed as a co-requisite must be taken concurrently during the same semester.
