What is the California Dream Act?
The Dream Act applies to two laws that were passed in 2011 which allow AB 540 students to apply for and receive State of California financial aid, including:
• Board of Governors Fee Waivers
• State financial aid like Cal Grants and Chafee Grants
• Assistance from EOPS, CARE or CalWORKs -
Privately-funded scholarships
What is an AB 540 student?
AB 540 students are exempt from paying non-resident enrollment fees, if they meet all the following criteria:
• Attended a California high school for at least three years;
• Graduated from a California high school, received a GED or passed the
California High School Proficiency Exam;
• Are registered or enrolled at a California community college; AND
• If required, complete an affidavit with the Admissions & Records Office
documenting the student has filed (or will file when eligible to do so) for legal immigration status.
What is a waitlist?
UNDERSTANDING THE WAITLIST
The waitlist system allows students to sign up on a list for a full class on a “first come, first served” basis and enables the system to fill open seats as they become available. Do all classes have a waitlist?
No. Not all classes will have a waitlist - it's up to the instructor for each class. In the Class Schedule, Waitlist Available will appear for full or closed classes that are waitlist enabled.
How do I sign up for a waitlist?
You can sign up for a waitlist by entering the ticket number of the class. You will be prompted during registration if you want to be added to the waitlist.
Will the waitlist check my class schedule conflicts?
No. This is because you may want to make adjustments to your schedule if the desired class you want to take becomes available.
How do I know if was added to the waitlist?
You will receive a confirmation message in registration. In addition, you will be sent an email confirmation.
Can I get on the waitlist if I have not met the pre-requisite for the class?
No. If you don’t meet the pre-requisite for a class, you can’t get on the waitlist.
Once I am on a waitlist, am I automatically enrolled in a class?
No. If a seat opens before the class starts, we will contact the students on the waitlist.
Can I be on more than just one waitlist?
Yes. You can be on as many waitlists as you want for the same course, even if you are already enrolled in a different section of that course.
