SCHOOL CLOSING GUIDELINES
The safety of our students and staff at LTC is our priority. The college is understanding of the time it
takes to drive to campus during bad weather. At certain times our students make decisions about
weather and road conditions so that even though school remains open, they may choose not to drive or
choose to leave early.
Day and evening classes at the college will be canceled only in extreme cases, generally following
closing action taken by local business and industry. Adult evening classes may be canceled depending
on the severity of conditions in the particular community. If classes are canceled for the day, students
should not report. If the College is closed, all campuses will be closed. Students should not report.
The following announcement options and timeline will be followed to the best of our ability:
•
Day campus closing/classes canceled
o
Decision is made by 6 a.m. and announced by 6:30 a.m.
o
If a clear cut decision cannot be made, classes will be canceled until 10 a.m. This will allow
time for more information to be gathered and a decision to be made on whether a complete
closing is necessary.
•
Delayed campus opening/start of classes
o
The decision will be made by 6 a.m. and announced by 6:30 a.m.
o
If a two hour delay is announced, all classes will be delayed until 10 a.m.
o
Scheduled class time before 10 a.m. is canceled. Multi-hour classes scheduled to be in
session at 10 a.m. will resume when LTC opens.
•
Evening campus closure/canceled classes
o
Decision is made by 2:30 p.m. and announced by 3 p.m. Campuses will close at 4 p.m.
o
If weather conditions warrant early evening dismissal, Evening Operations staff will make a
PA announcement to close.
•
Weekend campus closure/classes are canceled
o
Decision is made by 6 a.m. and announced by 6:30 a.m.
If there is limited attendance of students during inclement weather, a substitute class activity may be
used;; however, all classes will pursue an educational objective on that day. Students or faculty who are
assigned to clinical experience in hospitals and medical offices will also follow this policy.
