The Free College Promise
Promise students will receive:
• Two years of $0 tuition and fees
• Two years of priority class registration to help get the classes students
need to finish on time
• Counseling and Tutoring Services
• Chromebook to make it easier to take classes online or access E-books
Program expectation:
• Graduate in 2020 from service area High Schools
• Fill out the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or
California Dream Act and submit additional paperwork upon request • Fill out the San Bernardino Valley College admission application
• Fill out The Free College Promise application
• Complete the Matriculation steps
o Online Orientation
o Online Guided Self-Placement
o Student education plan with a counselor
o Attend the Free College Promise orientation
• Attend Summer Bridge Program after high school
• Attend San Bernardino Valley College as a full-time student (12 units or
more per semester)
• Attend required counseling appointments determined by college

STAR Program (AD/SS-201)
The STAR (Success Through Achievement and Retention) program is a federal Student Support Services TRIO program, designed to increase the graduation and transfer rate of students who qualify. To qualify for the program students must be first-generation college students, low income or have a physical or learning disability. The purpose of STAR is to provide counseling and varied support that will empower students to complete their educational degree and/or certificate requirements and obtain an A.A., A.S., Certificate and/or transfer. Participants receive academic and personal counseling, academic workshops, transfer advising, tutoring, financial aid counseling, field trips to four-year universities, use of computer lab with limited free printing, and an opportunity to attend cultural enrichment activities.
