                Student Success Act
SB1456 Student Success Act of 2012 formerly named the Matriculation Program as the Student Success and Support Program (SSSP) and provided a policy framework that targets funding for core matriculation services. The core matriculation services encompass access, orientation, assessment, counseling and advising, development of student education plans, and student follow-up for at risk students.
SSSP is a process that enhances student access to the California Community Colleges and promotes and sustains the efforts of credit students to be successful in their educational endeavors. The goals of SSSP are to ensure that all students complete their college courses, persist to the next academic term, and achieve their educational objectives through the assistance of the student-direct components of the SSSP
In addition to the core matriculation services, SB1456 brought forth changes to the students’ priority registration. Students will lose their priority registration if they fall under any one of the following:
• Placed on academic or progress probation or any combination for two consecutive semesters
• No initial or two-year comprehensive education plan on WebAvisor
• Has earned 100 or more degree applicable semester units at San
Bernardino Community College District (SBCCD).
• Students would lose eligibility for the California College Promise Grant if they are on probation for not maintaining a 2.0 GPA for two consecutive primary terms (Fall & Spring semesters) or not successfully completing half the units attempted in that period
To ensure that students receive the core SSSP services and remain in good academic standing, SBVC provides a full array of support services. These services include: academic advising/counseling, transfer services to four year institutions, financial aid, etc. In addition to these services, it is essential that students meet with a counselor and develop a comprehensive education plan. The education plan is tailored to timely meet the student’s educational goal(s) and to provide a frame work of classes leading to a successful and rewarding educational experience.
