The Office of Cooperative Education identifies opportunities that integrate classroom theory with
professional practice. Students will utilize the workplace as a learning environment to test previously
learned facts and theories, revise assumptions, and derive new and firsthand knowledge. Additionally,
students will earn a salary which can be utilized to offset future academic costs. Prior to any “Co-op”
experience, students will be required to participate in the Co-op 101 Seminar Series to develop and/or
enhance specific skills. The skills acquired from the Seminar Series will prepare students for
networking and interviewing with companies to secure a cooperative education placement. Students
are strongly encouraged to speak with their faculty advisor and academic dean upon arrival at
Spelman College to begin the process of planning for the Co-op experience.
