STUDENT OUTREACH AND SUPPORT & SOCAT
CASE MANAGEMENT SERVICES/FOOD AND HOUSING RESOURCES/ MENTAL HEALTH RESOURCES/ACADEMIC RESOURCES/AND MUCH MORE
The goal of Student Outreach and Support (SOS) is to help students manage life stressors that are impacting their academic and personal well-being.
SOS enhances student success by identifying needs, removing barriers and reducing distress.
After receiving a referral for services, the office helps students through a variety of supportive interventions, connections to on and off campus resources and case management.
Anyone can make a referral to our office for services.
If you think you can benefit from our office you can refer yourself too!
As a student, you are in a good position to identify who might need help as you see and talk to other students on a regular basis and often in stressful situations. If you notice that a friend or classmate is exhibiting one or more of the following academic, physical or emotional signs, or you just have a “gut-feeling” that something is wrong, make a referral.
• Some indicators for making a referral are:
• Seeing a change in typical behavior
• Hearing about someone having thoughts of self-harm, harm to others or suicide
• Seeing a peers mood shift often or an outburst of anger
• Missing tests and assignments because they are no longer interested or care
• Missing classes and labs
• Difficulty dealing with life event (death, break-up, adjusting to college lifestyle)
• Expressions of hopelessness, isolation, worthlessness
• Constant feelings of tiredness, oversleeping, overeating
• Signs of self-harm or threats (cuts, burns, written or verbal threat to harm others or self)
We will make every attempt to keep your information private.
SOS and SOCAT (Students of Concern Assistance Team) rely on referrals from concerned community members in order to effectively support and intervene with students who are in need of assistance. We ask that any person who is concerned about a student complete our referral form so that we can begin contacting the student and arranging an appointment for an initial meeting.
