The office of AVP for student support provides additional levels of assistance or advice to students who are experiencing difficulties, concerns, or challenges. Our miner support advocates help students navigate concerns, university procedures or protocols which may be impacting their success at utep.
Miner support advocates are not clinicians but can assist with connecting students to clinicians in the Student Health & Wellness Center, or the Counseling & Psychological Services Department.
Types of support:
• Academic difficulties
• Basic needs resource support and referrals • Family emergency
• Food and housing insecurity
• Grade grievance
• Interpersonal violence
• Medical or mental health emergency
• Missing student

UTEPCARE
Campus Advocacy, Resources, and Education (CARE) seeks to empower the campus community by providing advocacy, case management, resources and supportive services to UTEP students, staff and faculty members who have suffered physical, sexual, financial, or emotional harm because of an incident on or off campus.
CAMPUS ADVOCACY
Services are provided to the victim or secondary victim if they are active students, staff or faculty of UTEP.
• Private services, resources, and support for students, staff and faculty who have been impacted by violence/crime.
•Offer a safe setting to discuss questions, concerns, and experiences regarding their incident.
• Assist in understanding and participating in the university disciplinary process.
• Provide options regarding campus interim measures, including academic, housing and parking location.
• Discuss and provide on- and off-campus resources and accompaniment to services.
• Assist with criminal justice proceedings/ matters, as a direct result of a crime,
if applicable.
EDUCATION
CARE works in partnership with campus departments and community agencies to develop engaging programs to educate the campus community about the role each of us play in ending interpersonal violence on our campus and our community.
Workshops and training topics including:
• Recognizing the Warning Signs of Unhealthy
or Abusive Relationships
• Do One Thing (DOT) Bystander Intervention • Other topics upon request
