Our mission at Student Media and Publications is to provide a hands-on learning environment for students, where they can learn practical journalistic applications and business practices. Student Media and Publications serves as a public forum for the University and a community that enables students to be informed and active participants in college life. Additionally, The Prospector and Minero Magazine are proudly produced in their entirety by UTEP students!

Student Media and Publications provides a profes- sional, hands-on work experience for self-motivated students who wish to pursue a career in multimedia journalism, advertising and graphic design. The department has produced some of the finest mul- timedia professionals in the region and the country. The department publishes the student newspaper, The Prospector, in digital and print formats.
Through The Prospector’s website, www.theprospectordaily.com , students provide the campus community with the most up-to-date news, opinions, entertainment and sports from campus and around the community. The Pros- pector’s print edition is published biweekly on Tuesdays during the fall and spring semesters.
Student Media and Publications also publishes a student-run bilingual magazine. Minero Magazine is published once every fall and spring semester and provides a venue for celebrating the Univer- sity’s diverse culture while filling a rapidly growing need for bilingual and bicultural journalists. Both publications have received local, regional and national awards consistently over the years.
