The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), 20 U.S.C. §1232g, and 34 CFR 99, are a federal law and regulations that provide students with the following rights with respect to their student educa- tional records:
1. to inspect and review the student’s education records;
2. to consent to disclosure of the student’s education records to third parties, except to the extent that FERPA authorizes disclosure without consent;
3. to request amendment of the student’s education records to ensure that they are not inac curate or misleading, or otherwise in violation of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA;
4. to be notified of the student’s privacy rights under FERPA; and
5. to file a complaint with the U.S. Department of Education concerning alleged failures by the University to comply with the requirements of FERPA.
It is the policy of The University of Texas at El Paso (“University”) to protect the privacy and records access rights that apply to records maintained by or for the University about its current and former students of its institutions by complying with FERPA at all times.
UNIVERSITY STUDENT IDENTIFICATION CARD

The University provides a University identification card (ID card) to each student for University identifi- cation and administrative purposes. The ID card remains the property of the University. Students are ex- pected to have their ID cards in their possession at all times while on the campus and to maintain proper and reasonable care for the ID card. Students may be asked to produce the ID card and/or to identify themselves at any time by a faculty member or a University official acting in the course of his/her duties. A student’s failure or refusal to produce his/her ID card in response to such a request may result in denial of University services or activities to which the student is otherwise entitled, and/or disciplinary action. Only currently validated ID cards in good condition will be accepted for University purposes.
