Counseling
The Vincennes University Jasper Counseling Office offers mental health counseling to VUJ students. Our counselor is a professional, part-time staff member who is licensed by state and national accreditation boards. Counseling is confidential and free of charge. Students are accepted by self-referral or on referral of others. Depression, anxiety, family or other relationship difficulties, academic challenges, and grief are just a few of the types of problems addressed. In addition to direct therapeutic services, referrals to local social service agencies and medical resources are facilitated when appropriate. Consultation and educational materials/programming can be made available to individuals or groups as well. Those interested in services may call 812-482-3030, or email vujcounseling@vinu.edu, to schedule an appointment. For more information, one may visit the Counseling Office webpage at www.vinu.edu/web/jasper-campus/counseling-center.
Office of Diverse Abilities & Accommodations
Resources are offered through the Office of Diverse Abilities and Accommodations to help students overcome or compensate for obstacles related to a physical, emotional, learning, or other diverse ability. Available resources include: assistance in obtaining alternative format textbooks and adaptive technology, arrangements for sign language interpreter and captioning services, and referral to community agencies. Staff also assists faculty by distributing information through group educational presentations and individual consultations, and by coordinating to ensure the provision of reasonable and appropriate accommodations to students with diverse abilities.
All currently enrolled Vincennes University students with diverse abilities, on any Vincennes University campus, are invited to register with the Office of Diverse Abilities and Accommodations in order to receive the most appropriate accommodations in their classes. Please complete registration with the Director of Student Services (Jasper Campus) or the Office of Diverse Abilities and Accommodations at the earliest date possible since reasonable accommodations that necessitate additional staff or funding, contractual arrangements through an outside vendor, or structural modification or purchase (such as adaptive or assistive technology) may require longer than sixty (60) days to be arranged. In rare instances, accommodation requests that are not made in a timely fashion may be delayed. Please be prepared to provide professional documentation/evidence of the need for specific accommodations.
Additional information about registration and services may be found at https://www.vinu.edu/web/diverse-abilities-and- accommodations/welcome. Vincennes University does not charge any additional costs to qualified students for the provision of reasonable and appropriate accommodations.
Student Financial Services
Students may apply for federal and state aid by completing the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (fafsa.gov) and for institutional aid by completing the VU scholarship application (vinu.edu/scholarships). The filing deadline for state grants is April 15 each year. Continued eligibility for various financial aid programs involves several requirements, one of which is maintaining satisfactory academic progress. More details are available in the VU Catalog or on the VU Financial Services page (vinu.edu/financial-services).
