DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC SAFETY
Levinson Hall 23 | (661) 395-4554
Bakersfield College is a community of individuals dedicated to the academic development of all who attend our various
campuses. BC’s Department of Public Safety (DPS) is committed to, and responsible for ensuring a safe campus environment
conducive to student achievement and success. Through education, awareness, and prevention DPS provides an array of
public safety services to uphold our mission to keep students, and staff safe by: offering security escort services with officer on
patrol 24/7/365, Rape Aggression Defense (RAD) classes for students and staff, as well as sexual assault and violence
prevention tips.
See Something, Say Something, Do Something. DPS encourages each student to program the DPS main phone number,
(661) 395-4554, into your cell phone and contact DPS for any situation regarding campus or personal safety.
Crime Prevention
DPS along with Maintenance and Operations combine efforts to enhance the Bakersfield College maintenance and security
programs. Exterior doors on campus are secured each evening by DPS. Buildings are monitored by DPS and Grounds staff
routinely trim trees and bushes to reduce potential safety hazards. Lighting is also checked regularly. All members of the
campus community can report maintenance/security issues by calling or reporting to DPS.
Lost and Found
Found property is maintained by DPS, Office of Student Life (Campus Center), and the Welcome Center in the Administration
Building. DPS is responsible for processing and disposing of all items which are recovered on campus. Most items are held for
90 days. All reasonable attempts are made to locate the owners of property turned in to Lost and Found. Property not claimed
within 90 days is disposed of or donated to charitable causes.
See Something, Say Something,
Do Something…
Across the nation, we're all part of communities. In
cities, on farms, and in the suburbs, we share
everyday moments with our neighbors, colleagues,
family, and friends. It's easy to take for granted the
routine moments in our every day—going to work or
school, the grocery store or the gas station. But your
every day is different than your neighbor’s—filled
with the moments that make it uniquely yours. So if
you see something you know shouldn't be there—or
someone's behavior that doesn't seem quite right—
say something. Because only you know what’s
supposed to be in your everyday.
Informed, alert communities play a critical role in keeping our nation safe. "If You See Something, Say Something™" engages
the public in protecting our homeland through awareness–building, partnerships, and other outreach.
Incident Reporting Form
Bakersfield College is concerned about the safety and well-being of all students, faculty, and staff. In an effort to open the lines
of communication across campus, Office of Student Life has created this incident report form. If you were involved in a non-
academic conduct incident, complete and submit this form. Your report will be sent to the Office of Student Life for further
review.
Bias Reporting Form
Bakersfield College is committed to provide safe spaces and to support a comprehensive reporting mechanism for incidents of
bias so that BC may better understand the campus climate and work continuously to improve it. In all instances, individuals
who experience acts of hate, bias, harassment, or discrimination should feel they have a safe space in which to report the
behavior and receive support. Even if a reported incident is not one that constitutes a hate crime or an incident that violates a
the Student Code of Conduct, the Office of Student Life learns from the reports and obtains feedback on how BC can improve
some aspect of the campus climate. Reports may result in individual education or new efforts to improve some aspect of
campus life.
