Extended Opportunity Programs and Services Program
EOP&S is a state funded program that serves educationally and financially disadvantaged students. EOP&S provides services
that assist students who have the potential to succeed in college. The Cooperative Agencies and Resources for Education
(CARE) program is designed to serve EOP&S for the academically underprepared, underrepresented, welfare-dependent,
single head of household student population to achieve academic and personal success.
Cooperative Agencies Resources for Education
As a supplemental component, EOP&S runs a state-funded program to provide additional support for BC's single parent
population. The CARE program serves low-income single parent students who receive cash aid from CalWORKs. In addition,
CARE provides educational support services designed for the academically underprepared. Financial assistance and childcare
may be awarded as a means of strengthening the retention, persistence, graduation, and transfer rates of these individuals.
Students participating in CARE may choose to pursue vocational certificate or license, associate degree, or transfer to four-
year universities.
California Work Opportunity and Responsibility to Kids
CalWORKs is California's Welfare to Work plan in response to Federal TANF (Temporary Aid to Needy Families) Program.
CHILD DEVELOPMENT CENTER
Child Development Center | (661) 395-4369
The Child Development Center at Bakersfield College (CDC) offers a student service with the primary goal of providing a
comprehensive child development program that serves students, families and their children 2-5 years of age. Our role is to
provide the time and support to assist student families in achieving their chosen academic/career goals. The CDC
demonstration laboratory classrooms offer a model of best practices in early childhood education while providing students with
learning opportunities through observation and on-floor interactions with young children and their families. The center is
licensed through the California Department of Social Services. All teachers are professionally trained in the field of early
childhood education, and are certificated through the California Commission on Teacher Credentialing. The Child Development
Center was rated a 4 star center by Kern Early Stars in the fall 2015. Placement in the program is made according to state
priorities and is designed for income eligible families who are enrolled in college courses leading to a specific
career/professional goal.
