OFFICE OF STUDENT LIFE
Campus Center, Room 4 | (661) 395-4355
Through innovative experiences in a co-curricular classroom, the Office of Student Life engages students in meaningful
interactions and hands-on skill development that fosters academic progress, student success, social justice, and citizenship
while serving the diverse breadth and scope of the Bakersfield College’s student community through recruitment, persistence,
retention, and graduation efforts. The Office of Student Life coordinates the Campus Center, Bakersfield College Student
Government Association (BCSGA), Student Activities, Student Organizations, Student Leadership Development, Student
Assistance Program (Renegade Pantry), Student Housing Services, Student Spirit, and much more.
The Office of Student Life nurtures a culture that fosters learning outside of the academic classroom by creating an
educational environment that connects the campus community to the importance of processes that lead to student self-
governance. The Office of Student Life fosters the development of civic responsibility, community engagement, leadership, and
personal growth. The meaningful interactions are the root for our student advocacy that contributes to effective pathways via
the leadership and service opportunities provided. Student organizations who wish to plan activities and events can receive
assistance here. Student Life will assist you in booking space on campus and advise you on ideas, details, planning, and
implementation of your events.
Community Service
The Office of Student Life, through the assistance of registered student organizations, is often involved in community outreach
programs. These activities combine efforts of students and BC employees. Since BC is a community college, active
participation is possible through a variety of projects. For more information about how you can assist or get involved in any
community outreach programs, stop by the Office of Student Life.
BAKERSFIELD COLLEGE STUDENT GOVERNMENT ASSOCIATION
Campus Center, Room 4 | (661) 395-4614
Bakersfield College Student Government Association (BCSGA) is your student government at Bakersfield College that voices
your concerns. BCSGA presents your opinions, needs, and concerns to such groups as the College Council, the State Student
California Community College (SSCCC), and many campus-wide and district-wide committees. BCSGA also allocates your
Campus Center and Student Representation fees to programs and services that directly benefit students and the Campus
Center. Regular meetings are held and are open to the public. Meeting times are posted in the Office of Student Life, Campus
Center 4.
BCSGA provides an avenue for motivated students to begin their understanding of public service through being involved in
their student government. BCSGA elected officials are actively involved in various aspects of the college and meet with
administrators, system officials, and legislators on a regular basis to improve our campus and discuss student related concerns
and initiatives. The decisions made by BCSGA Officers affect every individual on campus.
The Association is comprised of 12 senators and 12 officers. BCSGA is the official voice for the students at BC and ensures
that the students are represented in all matters of the participatory governance. Through lobbying, advocacy, and student
representation, the Association ensures a supportive educational environment while promoting unity and cooperation with
students, faculty, staff, and administration. It is the intent of the Association to promote campus life, student involvement, and
engagement.
To be eligible to run for a BCSGA Office, Bakersfield College students must be enrolled in and successfully complete at least
six semester hours at Bakersfield College and maintain a minimum 2.0 cumulative GPA. While each student cannot serve as
an elected member of BCSGA, many opportunities exist for participation in various task forces and committees. Stop by the
Office of Student Life and check them out. Your Student Government needs you!
