The Counseling Department is committed to promoting student success by assisting students with educational planning and strategies for navigating higher education, as well as assistance with career choices. A student educational plan or SEP is the list of all courses a student needs in order to complete their certificate, degree or transfer program. All students need to make an educational plan that reflects what their goals are for attending Bakersfield College. It is now required that students declare an educational goal when they apply to Bakersfield College and they must create their own personal educational plan their first semester in order to maintain priority registration.
Academic Advising and Counseling at Bakersfield College is an on-going, intentional, educational partnership dedicated to student academic success. The college is committed to an academic advising and counseling system that guides students to:

Choosing a career and college major are important life decisions that are best made using a multi-step process of self- evaluation and awareness, occupational and career research, decision making, planning a course of action, and ongoing evaluation:
The Career Center offers a variety of career inventories and assessments to help you align your interests, values, and skills with potentially satisfying occupations. It also offers career exploration resources to help you acquire knowledge of local, state, and national labor market information, as well as detailed knowledge of occupations, including typical tasks and duties, required education and other preparation, salary, and future demand.

The International Student Affairs (ISA) Office at Bakersfield College is committed to student success and provides excellent open-access educational opportunities for the lifelong learning and development of non-immigrant students in a safe and friendly environment.
The focus of ISA is student success and achievement. The ISA Office provides counseling in immigration, academics, advocacy, cross-cultural matters, and personal matters. ISA supports an environment conducive to international education and intercultural awareness through educational, social, and cross-cultural programs.
The ISA Office is the primary resource for the non-immigrant students and their families at Bakersfield College. We create a learning environment that celebrates diversity and growth.
