COUNSELING SERVICES
Counseling services are made available to students through scheduled appointments
and on a walk-in basis. Appointments to meet with a counselor must be made one week
in advance through the Counseling Department, located in the Administration Building. A
student who has selected a major field of study is strongly encouraged to see one of the
counselors assigned to that field; an undeclared or undecided student may see any
counselor. As an integral part of the matriculation program, counseling services are
particularly intended to assist students in clarifying career and life goals and in
developing an appropriate course of study based on a student’s goals, aptitudes and
interests.
Drop-in advisement is normally available Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 8 a.m. to
4:30 p.m., Wednesday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. for students
who have questions that do not require transcript review. The drop-in advisement
schedule is subject to change based on counselor availability. Please call in advance for
the daily schedule.
For more information about Counseling Services, please call
310-900-1600, ext. 2076 or visit the office in the Administration Building.
DISTANCE EDUCATION
Many courses offered at Compton College may be taken through the Distance
Education program. Distance Education courses are ideal for students who need a
flexible class schedule because most coursework may be completed off campus via the
Internet. For some courses, a limited number of on-campus class sessions are required.
Other courses may be taken entirely online.
Students may register for Distance Education courses online or through the Admissions
Office during regular registration. Office hours during a regular semester are Monday
through Thursday, 12 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. and Fridays, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Office hours
during the summer session are Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.
