EXTENDED OPPORTUNITY PROGRAMS AND SERVICES (EOPS)
EOPS is a state-funded program designed to recruit potential eligible students, facilitate their admission, and increase the retention and success rates of participating students. EOPS seeks to equalize educational opportunity and make higher education a reality for sectors of our society who have traditionally been excluded, including economically disadvantaged groups. It is the responsibility of EOPS to help students grow and discover their unlimited potential. These goals are accomplished by providing a series of support services that include academic, career and personal counseling; priority registration; orientation; book vouchers; early academic intervention; student enhancement workshops; transfer assistance; transportation assistance; and academic grants.
EOPS Eligibility Requirements
To be eligible for EOPS, a student must 1) be a California resident or qualify as a California Dream Act Student or a Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) Student, 2) be enrolled in 12 units or more at Compton College, 3) have completed fewer than 70 degree-applicable units, and 4) demonstrate financial need by qualifying for the California Promise Grant (fee waiver) A, B, or C with a zero EFC.
Student Responsibilities
Students participating in EOPS are required to 1) submit an EOPS Application, 2) complete the EOPS Mutual Responsibility Contract (MRC), 3) complete a Student Educational Plan, 4) maintain academic progress toward a certificate, associate degree, or transfer goal, 5) attend EOPS Orientation, 6) submit academic progress reports every semester, 7) meet with an EOPS Counselor three times per semester, 8) maintain a semester GPA of 2.0, and 9) complete at least 67 percent of coursework each semester.
COOPERATIVE AGENCIES RESOURCES FOR EDUCATION (CARE)
The CARE Program is a state-funded, supplemental component of EOPS designed to provide educational and career support services and activities for single parents who are academically under-prepared and receiving cash-aid assistance. To qualify for CARE, students must be 1) eligible for EOPS, 2) a single parent and head of household, 3) currently receiving TANF/CalWORKs, 4) enrolled in 12 academic units, and 5) be in a program leading to a vocational certificate or license, associate degree, or transfer option.
