academic journey. CLASS cultivates student success and academic excellence by developing academic support programs that guide students to a future of lifelong learning.
CLASS, under the Division of Undergraduate Studies, coordinates:
Supplemental Instruction (SI) : A series of weekly study sessions for students taking historically difficult courses. SI is open to all students who want to improve their understanding of course material and improve their grades. Attendance is voluntary. SI is a chance to get together with people in the class to compare notes, to discuss important concepts, to develop strategies for studying and learning the subject and to test themselves before the professor does.
Tutoring programs: CLASS Tutoring Services provides free group tutoring by peer tutors in content-area courses. Peer tutors help improve performance in
a difficult course by modeling effective study techniques and breaking down difficult concepts. Peer tutors are successful students who have earned at least an “A-” in the courses they tutor, have been recommended by their professors and have been trained in tutoring techniques through the tutor training program.
eLearning: The eLearning academic support services provides students with resources to facilitate a successful online learning experience. The focus is to assist students with the integration of technology into fully online courses. Online tutoring is also available for students within key online courses.
Science Learning Center: The Science Learning Center or SLC provides comprehensive learning support to students enrolled in science courses at FAU. From our interactive Anatomy & Physiology Learning Center where you can practice with microscopes, anatomical models and explore the body with Virtual Reality software to our Organic Chemistry Center with drop-in support for one of FAU’s most challenging courses, students are provided with an array of FREE support at the SLC from students who have been in their shoes and learned how to succeed in FAU science courses.
ALL services within CLASS are FREE to FAU students. CLASS is located within the Schmidt Center. The CLASS office is open 8 a.m. - 7 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. - 5 p.m. Friday and 1 - 5 p.m. Sunday. For information or to apply for an academic support tutoring or SI position through CLASS, visit fau.edu/class, call 561-297-0906 or email stay@fau.edu.
